The Institute of Cultural Affairs Kenya is an indigenous autonomous organization. It is registered under the NGO Coordination Board currently under the Ministry of Culture and Social Services and National Heritage.

The Institute is a statutory member of the Institute of Cultural Affairs International whose headquarters are in Montreal Canada. ICA-Kenya launched the first community development project in Kawangware, a slum community in the west side of Nairobi city in 1975.
